Akron-Canton Airport Celebrates Best March in History

Green, OH: Low fares lured a record number of spring break travelers to Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) last month, making March the busiest in CAK history. A total of 158,984 passengers traveled to and from the airport, an increase of 8.4 percent compared to March 2012 (previous record). It also marks the 23rd record-breaking month for CAK out of 24 months.

 “March was exceptional,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “We focus on making the journey more enjoyable. Plus, thanks to Southwest Airlines®, CAK offers the lowest average fare in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Our Customers love the combination of low fares and a relaxing experience. It makes CAK a better way to go for air travel.”

Passenger traffic, compared to last year, was up on nearly all airlines serving the airport. Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways (now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest) were up 27 percent. Delta with 32,746 passengers was up 13 percent. US Airways carrying 23,880 had a 15 percent increase.
